What people are saying...
"Kara Kesselring & Sugarcreek Road prove that a collection of great songs can be a spirited journey home. This album has all the sweet storytelling, gorgeous vocals, and top-notch musicianship, that a satisfying drive across country needs. A great listen!"
"Remember when music made you happy--plain simple happy--touched something inside you, and made you feel like someone out there knew how you felt? The art of folk music is just that, and perfectly captured this wonderful album. A journey forward yes, but back as well to the first day you heard a song that changed forever what music would mean to you. How would not keep coming home to that?"
"From twang-tinged folk to pretty pop and on through to a smattering of jazz....plus a lullaby.....this album spans a great range of genres with ease. Backed by some clearly rock-solid musicians and her own deeply versatile vocals, Kara Kesselring deftly leads the charge on this new album from Sugarcreek Road. Enjoyable on so many levels, and organized really well in terms of the energy and genre shifts, many tastes will be satiated by this album!"
"What a great collection of fun and pretty and sad/nostalgic tunes all in one place. I'm singing along and getting lost in the lyrics that seem to force reflection of your past, present and future. Great songwriting, beautiful voice. It has been a while since I've listened to an album from start to finish, but I'm so glad to have done just that. This album is like a story and I get lost in it every time."
Sugarcreek Road blends a modern potpourri of folk, country, bluegrass, and gospel to create a sound that is as raw and compelling as America itself.
The group has been likened to Crooked Still and the Wailin’ Jennys. Kara’s vocals and vintage Wurlizter sounds have been compared to Norah Jones.
Catch their authentic approach to Americana throughout the Chicago music scene at venues such as Martyr’s, Mayne Stage, Uncommon Ground, Chicago Folk & Roots Festival, and more.
After taking a 5 month hiatus from Sugarcreek Road while on the road touring with the Broadway show, Jersey Boys, Kara is looking forward to getting back to Chicago and playing with Sugarcreek Road again.
Sugarcreek road performed a fundraiser for the Night Ministries of Chicago last fall.
